A Hero Passes On Dr Bernard Rimland has passed away. Our family is deeply saddened by his passing. For those who are unfamiliar with Dr Rimland, he was a pioneer. Autism was believed to be caused by "refrigerator mothers" until the publishing of Dr Rimland's book "Infantile Autism" in 1964, which dispelled this belief. He was the father of an autistic child, the founder of the Autism Society of America, the founder and director of the Autism Research Institute, the cofounder of Defeat Autism Now (DAN!), and a hero to millions of individuals and families affected by autism. His tireless efforts and research have made a direct impact on our child and will continue to impact society for generations to come. We respected Dr Rimland's character as a family man, a researcher, a treatment provider and a human being. Dr Rimland's passing is a huge loss for the autism community and our family feels this loss personally. Please take the time to visit the Autism Research Institute to read more about Dr Rimland's life and the work that continues to go on because of him. You may also make donations in Dr Rimland's memory to ARI to ensure that his goal of a cure for autism is met in this generation.
